FAQs

What is with you and vegetables? Why do you like them so much?

I just do. I think they are beautiful, and I like to eat them.

What is a vegetable? You talk about tomatoes, I thought those were a fruit.

A vegetable is not a scientific term. The word vegetable is more of a culinary term, and generally refers to any part of the plant that is eaten. Typically, we think of vegetables as savory. Fruits are the fertilized ovary of the flower. So, many other things we think of as vegetables, besides tomatoes, are also fruits, like eggplants, peppers, and cucumbers. I like fruits just fine, but this is about vegetables, and I use the term loosely. Mushrooms are not vegetables at all, since they are not even plants, but I include them.

Are you a vegetarian? Is this some kind of secret pro-vegetarian propaganda agenda you are pushing?

I don’t have any agenda I am pushing. I just like to talk about vegetables. You can eat whatever you want. I do. It just so happens that mainly what I like to eat are fresh delicious vegetables. And cheese. Yum, you are making me hungry.

Don’t you think there are enough blogs about the White House Vegetable Garden and Michael Pollan already? It’s getting kind of tired.

Well, maybe. But this is about more than just organic gardening, or eating locally. I like to talk about vegetables in art, culture, literature, music, and lots of other things too. But I will try to keep it interesting, and fresh. So if you see anything cool you think I would like, please email me at judy@vegetableradio.com.

Thanks!
